KLM eyes both the 737 MAX and the a320neo families

KLM has been known to be committed to cutting its carbon footprint and environmental effect on the planet. However, with a fleet of aging narrowbodies
that are not nearly as efficient as the newer 737 MAXs and a320neos, the flag carrier of the Netherlands is considering both the MAX and the neo to continue its narrowbody legacy. Which way will it turn?
'“Fleet renewal is the quickest, most feasible thing to do.”
In an interview with SKIFT, KLM CEO Pieter Elbers commented that a significant way to continue KLM's long-standing environmental protection is to renew its fleet. KLM are no strangers to fuel-guzzling 737-700s, which are being planned to be retired by 2022. However, their commitment to the environment has been a long-standing feat. Environmental, Social, and Governance(ESG) is a big part of KLM's plans to establish itself as an environmentally friendly airline.
With more efficient aircraft on the market-take the MAX, the NEO and even the C919 and MC-21, KLM is spoilt for choices-though it may favour the popular Airbus or Boeing.

At the moment, KLM is relying on the 737NG for its short-haul requirements. Its 737-900s have an average age of 20 years-the -700s are an average age of 13 years.
The a321neo seems a like-for like replacement for the aging 737s, and it was seen that KLM was inclined towards the a320neo family over the 737 MAX fiasco.

As you may know, by adding an aircraft from a different manufacturer to KLM's fleet will require a restructuring, new training and many more problems. If come right, the a320neo family can do wonders for KLM.
Our bet is on the MAX, which seems the most likely aircraft KLM will opt for. KLM's leadership team has already expressed its interest in becoming an all-Boeing airline, and the age of the A330s will help to expedite this ambition.
What do you think about KLM's potential decision? Will they swing towards Airbus or Boeing? Let us know in the comments!

Sooo...I was wrong, they chose the a320 family in the end!
Nice post, can't wait for the next ESG post.
I am new here.
Great article. Good move towards ESG initiatives.
